19th "Guards" Combined Aviation Assault Regiment: Our Past, Present, and Purpose
The "Guards" were formed out of the need to resist the onslaught of the Luftwaffe masses. Back in the early days of the war, of the "Guards", it was hard to find enough allied pilots to mount any effective resistance or opposition. Realizing the need to congregate those pilots who were brave enough to fight against the odds, two leaders emerged out of the chaos and slaughter to start a place, a squadron, where we could start our resistance and begin our counter-offensive. Those two members, named p3zman and curiousGamblerr , had their work cut out for them as they began their mission.
The "Guards" were born as a historical Russian squadron, after all, it is the eastern front. The unit we chose participated in the main battles of the IL-2 series: Stalingrad, Moscow, and Kuban - and they operated either the MiG-3, LaGG-3, P-40E, or P-39N. The latter to great success and adoration. The official squadron name was the "Nineteenth (19th) Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment" which was shortened to our official squadron tag of 19.GIAP//
Since then we have been battling back the Axis hordes, pushing our "inferior" aircraft to their limits, in an effort to show the Allies that resistance is not futile; In order to show the Axis that our aircraft are not "inferior" but that the pilot is what makes the difference. Now, after years of fighting, stalemate, and aerial insurgency - we have our numbers. We have our allies and our air forces. We can now finally mount an effective resistance and push back against the, currently, technologically superior foes. We have shown, for years, the we can in fact win if we work together and focus on the objective - the job at hand.
Now that the two sides have become more balanced we have decided to drop our historical moniker and re-brand our squadron tag to a faction-neutral tag of "19//" to facilitate a non-faction specific squadron. This move has allowed the "Guards" to attempt to balance factions on servers for everyone's enjoyment. Depending on the server, campaign, and squadron desire, we can and will fly for whatever faction (axis or allied) who needs support or direction. We vote as a squadron and alternate what factions we fly during sanctioned events (like TAW) as to keep the combat fun, balanced, and to keep our pilots entertained as well.
We have no bias here, just the will to resist whomever has the man-power, and fight against all odds - no matter how overwhelming. This requires that our "Guards" maintain their knowledge on a wide variety of aircraft, weapons systems, formations, responsibilities, and tactics for each. This knowledge is essential for successful employment as a "Guard" and deserves recognition because so many pilots choose to pick a side - afraid to expand their horizons. This is why we "Guards" choose to recognize and award our members' hard work and guard our squadron name and integrity, bestowing it on only the most deserving pilots.
"Guards" do not choose the battlefield we die on or the faction we die for; fate does that. However we do dictate how we die - and it's always the same way: Fighting!
