Hello everyone,
Since I’m 100% new here, I am just going to introduce myself a little bit before getting into the ingame details.
So I am Maxime, a young (26) engineer from France. So far I work in the car industry (I design control laws for engines, model some parameters, that kind of things).
I have been found of flying since as far as I can remember. From my parents’ memories, the most plausible hypothesis as to how I, along my twin brother, caught the virus, is seeing the B17 “pink lady” flying over my crib when it was on its way to the Avord airbase for a meeting. In short, my interest in these metal birds goes way back.
I did play a lot on the old IL2 during my teenage years, but never joined a squad, and thought that I’d check again in the sim world this summer.
Also, IRL I used to fly a bit, as a trainee. Before starting my post high school very time consuming studies, I was able to gather around 15 hours, with one solo flight, best experience so far. Learned the basics on a Jodel D112 for ~10 hours, then moved on to an Aquila AT-01 for more “advanced” training. Since then, unfortunately, time and money are too short to fly for real.
I currently live around Paris. Although, I am due to move to Vancouver around the 25th of September, which is why the squad caught my eye on the IL2 forum. I probably won’t be flight ready before October though, because I will have to order a new stick, rebuild my PC (first time I’ll be doing a complete build on my own, so I’m expecting some trouble ), get used to the new timezone, etc…
To describe my flight abilities, I know the basics of flying, both IRL and in the game. So far I fly ingame with my keyboard. It’s very limiting (landing La-5 in crosswind is a nightmare for instance), so I only fly navigations and level bombing runs, but it allows me to learn operational speeds, flaps settings, angles, and the engine management part. Also, by flying like this I can get to know the maps.
The part I am the greenest with is combat. Don’t really know the tacts, and my aim is, neither good nor super poor.
Meanwhile, I can show up on TS during weekends. I was also planning on getting my old stick (a brave X52 from the 2000’s), but unfortunately it’s stored too deep in my dad’s basement and I could not find it when I visited him. Thus I will not have a stick until October. Til then, (and on weekends), I can still tag along as a gunner (if the game allows it, I don’t even know), to get to know the squad.
For the little summary tab :
Pilot Call-sign: It’ll probably be MaxGM
Location: France (around Paris), soon to be Vancouver
Timezone: GMT +1, soon to be Eastern
Team Speak: Yes I have TS3 (I used to be a semi hardcore wow raider, sshhh)
Preferred Role: Whatever has wings, I like. Every type has its own challenges. Getting in fights à la “Le Grand Cirque” (Clostermann), or flying back on one engine…
Questions and Comments: I am not currently able to fly missions as a pilot (no stick). My favorite birds tend to be on the blue side (202 and heinkel 111), but I still have some love for anything with wings, and from what I gathered, the red side tend to lack players. On the red side my heart tends to beat a little more for the La-5, Mig-3, and soon the A20.
In the meantime, feel free to contact me on the IL2 forum or here.
See you soon, hopefully in the sky.
Max
